ORCHARD PARK, NY: Strangely, the Orchard Park area isn't buzzing about a Bills victory on this Monday. It's buzzing because the final URWL rookie signing before Season 3 begins was made final earlier today, a huge deal for the company that will finally augment the paper-thin URWL Womens' Division and bring a new face into the spotlight in the process.
Today's signing brought the mysterious Hija Suicida ("Daughter Suicide" in Spanish) to an American wrestling ring for the first time in her young but polished career. A self-proclaimed "luchadora americana", not much is known about Suicida's past or her true identity - even outside the ring, she hardly speaks, wearing her mask to conceal her identity.
Rumor has it that Suicida was a former art student at the State University of Colorado who fled an abusive life in a broken, alcoholic household during one particular summer vacation to "start a new life" and "reinvent herself" in Mexico, where she (supposedly) created and assumed the identity of Hija Suicida in order to elude suspicion. Why she took up wrestling is anyone's guess, but her reputation south of the border certainly shows that she is a gifted, naturally talented and memorable competitor. Her decision to accept a URWL contract certainly negates her rumored "fugitive" status and conflicts with her rumored biography.
Her life before wrestling may be mysterious and mythic, but her unique wrestling style speaks for itself. The "luchadora americana" philosophy she possesses is far from the stereotypical "high spot and leapfrog" attack of the Mexican luchadores. She is a skilled submission wrestler, a potent striker and a well-balanced grappler. Diving and leaping attacks, however, aren't to be forgotten (after all, it's the "luchadora" portion of her attack). Her signature diving maneuver, Aliento Final, has left many of her opponents injured after matches. The dizzying speed and relentless attack she possesses make her an instant "must-watch" in the Womens' Division.
Suicida did not attend today's press conference despite an appearance at URWL H.Q. for her contract signing. However, her first test as a member of the URWL Womens' Division is only a walk across the street to the URWL Arena, in the main event of the Road To Rebirth undercard pre-show when she takes on the equally-as-dangerous (and recently renamed) Cyberpunk.
