UPDATED 9/21: The State of the URWL

All right, guys, here's an explanation on what's been happening post-Episode 9. I've been working hard all summer and don't have my priorities on the URWL at the moment but that's about to change.

I said that Episode 10's production would only take less than a month due to my desire to get the Rantboard War stuff underway and advance angles, since there's many interesting things I have already planned for the future. As you all know, this proposal hasn't been fulfilled.

There are many things going on in my personal life at the moment that come before the URWL, including a major death in my family (one that I don't feel comfortable elaborating on these forums), my job and a weight loss goal I have set for myself over the summer. The latter has forced me into working out and jogging in the time I would usually spend on the computer working on URWL shows. Additionally, I'm spending much more time with friends of mine who go to college out of town since I don't have many chances to see them during the year.

So, what does this mean? This means I have a life over the summer and one that will possibly redefine the way I spend my life. No, this does NOT mean I'm giving up. This league was established nearly ten years ago as my creative outlet and my response to the wrestling industry, and I intend to continue it that way.

This post, though, is just my way of telling all of you that I'm not giving up or giving any of you the cold shoulder. You all deserve the best I and the league has to offer and you will keep getting my 100% through all of this. Besides, I'd rather keep this as a hobby than a job and put out high-quality events instead of rushed, half-assed ones that I'd feel guilty of slapping the URWL name on.

Rest assured, though, that I will find ways to work on the URWL despite my busy schedule and social life. I'm still trying. I haven't given up.

NOW...for another matter altogether. The "new season". I've told all of you that Season 3 will happen on SVR2009, but such a proposal seems highly unlikely at the moment as the summer ends and the fall draws nearer. 2010 seems like it may seem more feasible for the league to continue on, providing, of course, that the game doesn't dramatically remove features present in 2008 or 2009.

Yes, the new "split show" idea (HighStakes and Roughness) will go on as planned, but at this point I'm not quite sure what game it'll be on. This change is supposed to occur post-Discontent, so it all depends on when Discontent comes out in relation to the release date of SVR2010. If I have enough time in-between DTR and 2010, then, yes, I will switch to 2009. If DTR comes out late, though, and if 2010 is just around the corner, Season 3 will either continue on 2008 or begin on 2010.

So, in conclusion, there's so much I want to do with the URWL right now...Rantboard War, Episode 10, DTR, Fans' Choice Awards Voting, New Shows...but only so much time to do it in. Rest assured, though, that from this point forward, I will attempt to find ways to work on the show in spite of my busy and eventful summer.

Thank you all for your consideration, and rest assured that the URWL is still alive and kicking despite all the chaos in my personal life.

Dude, we don't mind just take your time with it. Also, I think you should skip SvR09 and go straight to SvR2010 since this year is all about "Customization".

UPDATE: Yes, the summer is almost over and I haven't really done much here. The board is dead. But the news about SVR 2010's customization has piqued my interest. So much so that I'm actually either going to consider one of FOUR things:

1.) Get done with Ep. 10 and D:TR ASAP so that I can begin Season 3 on 2010...this is my ideal choice but I am a human being who has just spent all summer losing 60 pounds and having a good social life, so it's kinda hard for me to go all-out and still make everything flow realistically by November.

2.) Make a bare-bones Episode 10 for storyline purposes ONLY, which will probably be our worst show apart from match quality. Bare-bones means no wrestler promos, commercials and such but the Explosion of the Evening and the City Report will still be in there. Matches will be the same but there won't be any sort of promos or bells and whistles which I know will upset a shitload of people. This will be followed by a fully featured D:TR show though.

3.) Skip Episode 10 entirely (which will create a LOT of plot holes), do the Rantboard War stuff ASAP and produce DT:R which will be the last show of Season 2. This won't make much sense angle-wise but it will speed things up a lot.

4.) Just cancel every event and angle and reboot the show entirely, beginning a new era of the URWL in a special supercard after 2010 releases. This will piss the most people off, especially those who have been eagerly following the show's main angles.

No, there is not an option to "quit making shows altogether". That I will not do. The show will go on. Please let me know which option is more convenient.

Yowza. Lotta "Option 1's". OK, guys, I'll try my best but I don't want to spend months and months on one event. True, Season Three's new format won't start until after 2010's out and the new CAWs get made, but that time doesn't seem that far away considering how much time I took to produce Popular Demand and Episode 9.

Work will be underway on Episode 10 and D:TR in the next week, then. I'm currently trying to brainstorm some ideas I had in mind.

you know it doesn't have to be spot-on the line perfection right, all we need is a normal show, but 2010's game will probably be easier to do caw leagues on, given the whole create a storyline thing which will take production time down to a few days.

I don't know about that...I'm still a little miffed on if the Create a Storyline is going to support people controlling everyone in a match or if it's a single player mode like RtW. Also even if that is true. Production is still going to take longer than a couple of days. Speaking from experience editing is a time consuming process, and that doesn't include rendering time, commentary recording, or upload time. It's an exhaustive process no matter how little you have to capture.

OK, I'm back after yet another absence. And I've made up my mind. Here's what's going down.

Episode 10 and Discontent: The Recession have been scrapped and replaced with an all-new event which will contain a basis to continue the feuds we've been working on while experimenting with all the new things 2010 has to offer, as well as offering a sneak peak at some of the new production features I plan to implement in Season 3.

As for the Rantboard War, I may just re-open the entries and postpone the match until Digital Mayhem 2010 (the tenth anniversary of the league's first supercard, Digital Mayhem 2000, if anyone is paying attention).

I realize this may upset a few of you but rest assured that the same feuds you were expecting to see culminate in Episode 9 and D:TR will continue and expand, leading up to either DM2010 or a new event.

So, at the moment, Season 2 is over. Therefore, to keep most of you occupied until the new format and shows, I may choose to open Fans' Choice Award voting and keep some interest on this board flowing. Like it did at DM2008, DM2010 will see the results of the voting via vignettes displaying the accomplishments of the award winner.

It was all about weighing options and I think this is the best one for me and for the league at the moment, considering the sheer amount of stuff going on in my life at the moment. Pushing the feuds back to the debut of Season 3 on 2010 and going from there will give people something to look forward to, continuing what we already had planned while starting anew at the same time.

Also...don't hold me to this just yet...but I may consider doing a Rantboard-wide CAW contest with the new roster sharing options 2010 gives us. At this time it's probably going to be one male CAW and one female CAW, so to give some of the best CAW makers on these boards two chances to "make the roster". Depending on how it turns out, this may be your ONLY opportunity to submit CAWs to me so I think many people on these forums and beyond will step up to the plate. However, if any immaturity or egoism or crybaby attitudes get in my way, I have the right to never make a contest like this happen again, so I hope those wanting to do something like this are willing to carry themselves like human beings. Once again, do not hold me to this because it's still in the planning stages...but it'll probably be our best "viewer participation" shtick yet.

Once Again... Episode 10 and D:TR have been canned and replaced by a brand-new "mega show" at the beginning of Season 3 that will not only continue our planned angles but give the show a new shot in the arm (hopefully) with the new cutscenes THQ gives us. Afterward, those angles will culminate in another supercard that I'm not sure of just yet (could be Digital Mayhem 2010 depending on my schedule). Our new show format I discussed a while back will continue as planned after this "mega show".

To also reiterate, Season 2 Fans' Choice Awards Voting and the re-opening of the Rantboard War entry will happen in the next few days, along with a CAW contest that will start the day I get my hands on SVR2010.

Guys and gals, I know, it's been frustrating for you. But don't write the URWL off just yet. We are not dead. Not even close. Every change I made will be for the betterment of the show and give you a new level of immersion that you've never seen before. Those of you that have spoken to me know that I'm not one to make empty promises so this is not a "used car salesman" pitch. I truly believe that starting over will give me the confidence I need.

I'm not giving up. Just weighing options. If 2010 is as powerful as advertised, the show may reach new heights. If not, 2008 may just have to suffice, once again, as disappointing as it is. I recently traded in my copy of 2009 so that game is now completely out of the question.

I think this will be for the better. I've been thinking and I was beginning to feel that a new beginning is just what the URWL needed. As far as SVR 10 is concerned I feel confident that it will deliver, to some extent, a MUCH more realistic show. We all got our wish a NEW game engine that looks awesome from what I've seen of it also the Create a Storyline, if not for matches, will be VERY good IMO for cut-scenes and in ring segments. This is the game that CAW owners have been waiting for, and I've already preordered my copy. I might even have to get off my lazy ass and get a wireless router and finally get on Xbox Live.

So I wish you good luck Goldash and look forward to seeing this new Supercard on SVR 10. I can't wait for this place to...live again, for lack of better words.

A caw contest in URWL surprised me. And I have a suggestion.

If this caw contest happens, I think it would be best if it happened 2 or 3 weeks after the games release cause some people may not get the game straight away and some would need to used to the stuff and time to make the caws and such.

Again, just a suggestion. But it's good that URWL is coming back.
