BUFFALO, NY: Fans congregating outside the URWL Arena after Discontent 2007 left the air had only one word to say after witnessing the results of the Jaime Emo/!nterogative Title for Title Matchup earlier that evening: "WHY?"
Mark Johnson, a Buffalo resident and URWL Arena season ticket holder, expressed disgust. "Jaime Emo won the match. I even think I heard the ref's arm hit the mat after the lights went out. What I never thought I'd see, though, is the return of Salvatore to the URWL."
Stanley Janceiwicz of Buffalo suburb Tonawanda, New York echoed Johnson's disgust. "I was shocked, disgusted, and appalled. How the hell could that possibly happen? Emo had !nterogative pinned, and then Salvatore thinks he has the right to come back to a URWL he hasn't seen in nearly five years? It's cheap, is what it is..."
The fans' comments certainly ring true. It all seemed like we were witnessing the biggest win of Jaime Emo's career when a mysterious figure from the URWL's past, Salvatore, interfered and cost Emo his first URWL Championship.
Michael Santino Salvatore was arrested at UNW Spring Breakdown 2003 in Durham, North Carolina, for grand larceny charges. The former Mafia crime lord confessed to counts of drug trafficking, assault and battery, and extortion, among other charges. He spent nearly five years in federal prison...and was apparently released without any public notification. His appearance at URWL Discontent 2007 was shocking, to say the least. Fans knew he was bound to return eventually, but no one expected his interference in the main event, helping a man he once hated.
Salvatore is also responsible for helping to save the URWL from the brink of extinction. His former stable, Il Mafia, won a match at URWL Intoxication 2K2 to save the company from Maximum Force, a stable that was hell-bent on shutting the URWL down to form their own league, Maximum Force Wrestling (or MFW). After Intoxication, Salvatore and Il Mafia turned on the fans, just as a certain amateur boxer made his debut in the URWL. Salvatore certainly has the credentials: three URWL Championships, two URWL Internet Titles and one URWL North American Championship...and now, he certainly has the notoriety to go along with them.
Conspiracies are currently spreading around the wrestling blogosphere and in countless forums around the internet about the exact reason why !nterogative decided to apparently abide with Salvatore, who helped seal him the victory at Discontent and keep his undefeated streak alive. A formal announcement from Salvatore and !nterogative, however, is expected in coming weeks.
As for now, the disgruntled URWL fans like those outside the HSBC Arena can only guess just what went on in the minds of !nterogative and Salvatore at Discontent.
