Which gameplay video impresses you the most? Which game is the one to buy this year? Is one better than the other, or are both games extremely solid titles?
MLB 2K9 (360/PS3/Wii/PS2/PSP/PC)
MLB 09: The Show (PS3/PS2/PSP only)
If there are any hardcore baseball gamers out there, feel free to give me your two cents about the games involved in the current "baseball video game wars".

2K9 is a pretty good game, but it's sloppy in places. For instance, your outfielders will deliberately slow down before reaching a ball, causing some drops. Also, the animations aren't too hot and the player faces are laughable. The Show, from what I've played, is the more authentic game but 2K9, for what it's worth, is pretty fun.
Pitching is much easier than last year, as it's now a two-step process instead of a three-step process...but you can switch back to 2K7's pitching controls if you want.

It depends. If you're a baseball enthusiast, I'd say rent 2K9 and either get the Show or find someone that has a PS3, because that game completely (excuse the pun) knocks it out of the park.
But if you're not too crazy about the little details and just want some form of baseball to play, then I guess 2K9 could be an option. A new patch is coming down the road that should fix some things, but, you're right. The sliders do nothing. Even in 2K9. But I think that, with some slider fixing and by playing on higher difficulties, the big home run totals you get in 2K7 are toned down.

Apparently there's a new patch for 2K9 that's coming out this weekend that eases most of the big issues with the game...I'll see for myself and report back to this thread.

I played a few games of the Show last weekend (Vince was generous enough to bring his PS3 over) and I was really impressed but not at all blown away. I'm not a big enough follower of baseball, I guess.
There's an element to "Murphy's Law" in The Show that I really like about it. For instance, Travis Snider (Blue Jays DH) argued a call with the first base umpire and ended up getting thrown out of the game after continuing to argue his point. Also, with bases loaded, I struck out with Alex Rios and Cito Gaston let him have it on the way back to the dugout. It's stuff like this that makes The Show awesome...
...but not awesome enough to make me want to switch consoles to buy it. 2K9 is fine by me.
