Here are the top stories surrounding the fourth URWL supercard of the CAW era, Popular Demand 2008.
The Most Anticipated Rematch In URWL History[/u]
Last year, Jaime Emo and Seth Stern's Internet Title matchup won Match of the Year and defined current URWL Champion Jaime Emo's career. Now, after a year, both men meet in singles action once again in Popular Demand 2008's main event. Since returning at Digital Mayhem, Seth Stern has been adamant at making Jaime Emo seem like a "one match fluke" and a "transitional champion". Will he succeed? Jaime Emo doesn't think so. Claiming Stern doesn't "have the heart" to hold the Platinum Belt, Emo feels his chances to retain are high. With a man he has no respect for as #1 Contender and with an unpredictable match stipulation that the fans decided, Emo must prove to the wrestling world that he has the poise to become a champion of substance in the Unnecessary Roughness Wrestling League.
The Barrster's Revenge?[/u]
Another highly-anticipated rematch at Popular Demand pits former URWL Champion !nterogative against the man whose career he almost ended, URWL Internet Champion Barry White. Bouncing back from a neck injury is always tumultuous, but for the 18-Time URWL Champion, it was just another minor hurdle. When White made his surprise return at Digital Mayhem and defeated Salvatore for the URWL Internet Title, the world knew the legendary URWL talent was out to prove that he wasn't drastically affected by the devastating injury. After !nterogative belittled Barry White on the URWL Rantboard and labeled both White and his career "dead", both men signed a contract to compete for the Internet Title at Popular Demand, looking to settle a conflict that, much like Stern and Emo's feud, had its roots in the very first episode of the URWL on YouTube. Barry and !nterogative are ready for anything at Popular Demand...but are they ready for the match you selected for them?
Taurus and Cordaro Look To End Heated Conflict[/u]
One year ago, if you were to have told URWL fans that Victor Cordaro and Taurus would have an upper-midcard battle at a major URWL supercard, they would've laughed in your face. But after engaging in a high-profile feud that included everything from trashtalk to screwjobs, both Mexican-born wrestlers are in a position to steal the show. Over the past few months, Victor Cordaro has transformed into an egotistical, unapologetic man who has received no punishment from the URWL staff in the aftermath of Digital Mayhem's "Kansas City Screwjob". On the other hand, Taurus has seemingly received all the disciplinary action for retaliating against Cordaro. After surviving a 3-on-1 "Punishment" match against Cordaro, !nterogative and Seth Stern (with a little help from Jaime Emo and Barry White), Taurus is now in good position to settle the conflict between himself and Cordaro. But will justice finally be served?
Can Blood End Akina's Run as Hardkore Champion?[/u]
URWL Hardkore Champion Akina is on a roll. Undefeated in his first seven matches as a professional wrestler, he is quickly capturing the hearts and attention of the URWL faithful. But former URWL North American Champion Blood looks to end all that at Popular Demand. Claiming he will be Akina's "first big test" as Hardkore Champion, Blood is out to embarrass the "Monster from Maui" at Popular Demand. After assaulting Akina outside the ring after his Episode 7 contest and forcing a handicap scenario as "special guest enforcer" in Episode 8, Blood seemed to be looking to usurp the Hardkore Hawaiian by any means necessary. But Akina, as seen in Episode 8, wasn't fazed by any of Blood's efforts and remained undefeated. Now, with an undefeated streak on the line, can Akina prove to the world that he can survive his first major test in the URWL? Or can Blood finally get the upper hand and send the youngster packing?
Commander, Kuleshov Battle for Technical Wrestling Supremacy[/u]
The contest between The Commander and Aleksandar Kuleshov isn't only about the URWL North American Championship. It's about pride, patriotism and the chance for the winner to prove to the URWL that he is the finest technical wrestler in the organization. Both men have never met in a URWL ring, but Kuleshov was able to initiate the conflict during Episode 8 of URWL Wrestling in a run-in during Commander's non-title match against Trent Tail. By viciously applying his patented Triangle Hold finisher after the match officially ended on a draw through disqualification, Kuleshov proved that he was already meticulously preparing for his first URWL title shot. By winning the #1 Contendership in Episode 7 against Salvatore, Fusion and Blood, Kuleshov proved he could stand up to some of the URWL's best. And at Popular Demand, his poise will be put to the test once again.
There's DFS and EOE, but what about GWN and Tag Team Turmoil III?[/u]
The Experts of Execution have won the #1 Contenderships of the URWL Tag Team Titles after surviving the URWL Tag Team "Mini-Tournament". They are guaranteed to take on the undisputed and undefeated URWL Tag Team Champions The Downfall Syndicate at Popular Demand. But what makes this scenario even more unpredictable is the fact that there's a "Secondary #1 Contendership" out there, and it's held by the most electrifying tag-team in the URWL today, The Great White North. If the fans voted GWN's way, Tag Team Turmoil III will take place at Popular Demand, leaving GWN one step away from the URWL Tag Team Titles. But did the fans vote for their inclusion in the match in the first place? The Downfall Syndicate, after defeating GWN at Digital Mayhem in a Tag Team Ladder Match, have brand new competition at Popular Demand and look to be in the best shape of their careers. But with E.O.E. garnering more boos in the past few weeks, will it take the inclusion of The Great White North to put this match over the top?
Should The Cyberpunk Be Concerned?[/u]
She's the URWL Womens' Champion for a reason: her unpredictable, high-flying style has been unmatched by anyone in the URWL Womens' Division. But should Jesse Slash be worried about her future with the belt? A double vote by URWL fans decided her #1 Contender and the match both will compete in. But who did the URWL fans choose? Could it be Kelsey MacDonald, who looks angered over giving up a loss to Slash at Digital Mayhem? Could it be Cecilia Rincon, who has dominated the URWL Womens' Division but has never defeated The Cyberpunk? Do the fans have the power to bring recently-departed Hikari Nakamura back on URWL television? Or will all four women meet in a four-way dance for the belt? Regardless of what happens, Slash has a lot to think about heading into Popular Demand.
ScorpbrA's Last Stand[/u]
Everyone's been talking about it. Everyone seems to await it. No one wants to see it. No, it's not the eventual stock market crash. No, it's not another Republican President. It's the breakup of ScorpbrA. Both brothers have seen success as singles wrestlers since the start of the CAW era and their effort as a tag team has suffered immensely because of that. Their tag team record stands at a URWL-worst 0-4. Every one of their tag team matches in the Tag Team Mini-Tournament in Episodes 7 and 8 have ended in a staredown. To say that they aren't on the brink of collapse would be an understatement. At Popular Demand, both brothers will take on Merle & Hog, who have been thorns in ScorpbrA's side throughout their URWL careers. One more loss means the end of one of the URWL's most storied teams. Will ScorpbrA live to see Episode 9?
Fusion and Salvatore Look To Set Things Straight[/u]
After bending the rules to take out Fusion in Episode 7 and Episode 8, Salvatore looks to have his hands full with the only English wrestler on the URWL roster. Fans are saying that Fusion is only "one match away" from becoming a power in the URWL, and a win over grizzled veteran and former URWL Champion Salvatore will prove that Fusion has the potential to turn his career around. Salvatore, though, isn't one to compromise. Despite wrestling dirty throughout his entire CAW-era career, Salvatore still has some great technical abilities that have yet to be seen in this new era of the URWL. Will he be able to harness them with Fusion across the ring?
