BUFFALO, NEW YORK: As Episode 1 of URWL LIVE left the air, an audibly distraught Goldash found himself, and his company, in a period of uneasy transition.
Who could blame him? In under two hours, the landscape of the URWL changed dramatically. In the first segment of the evening, URWL Chairman VinceNeil1981 was attacked and sent to Buffalo General Hospital by the indignant Seth Stern after refusing Stern's proposal of another rematch against Jaime Emo. It wasn't until Neil rejected Stern's second selfish proposal for a chance to recapture Fusion's #1 Contendership that he inflicted the wrath of the former Rookie of the Year.
After the penultimate match between Hija Suicida and Kelsey MacDonald ended, viewers saw yet another cryptic interference by currently suspended tag team The Downfall Syndicate. Based on his insistence at the RoughnessRankings that he would never acknowledge DFS again, Goldash had no public comment on the message during the event.
In the show's final moments, new URWL Federational Champion Aleksandar Kuleshov's arm was raised by the "Leader of Legitimate Wrestling", Cory Jones. This gesture all but confirmed that Kuleshov is the newest member of Cory's sycophantic Legitimate Wrestling Revolution.
After the show, a visibly exhausted Goldash addressed the wrestling media outside his limousine.
"This certainly changes things," the exasperated CEO said. "Before tonight, this URWL power struggle was all talk and speculation to you people. You saw hints of the instability in our front office on other programs, but now it's seemingly here to stay."
Goldash, however, revealed a slightly interesting development that may bring things back in his favor.
"That attack by Stern was strategic," he said, "because it precedes a meeting of the Board at URWL HQ. At this meeting, the Booking Committee will propose its card for Episode 2 of LIVE. Jack Stern, as you may know, has a vote because he sits on the Board. He'll surely be voting on behalf of Seth's #1 Contendership Match proposal and it's certain he'll have plenty of support for it. If VinceNeil1981 is unable to attend, his vote will be abstained and that's even more ammunition for the Sterns and their accomplices."
However, the frustrated Goldash seemed oddly confident when asked about his own thoughts on the matter.
"One of the benefits of this company's structure is a checks-and-balances system," Goldash said. "That means I can issue an executive veto if I feel a proposal causes significant damage to the URWL brand. Should they vote 'yes' on a #1 Contendership match between Stern and Fusion, I can just as easily turn it down by saying it will cause us long-term damage...which I believe it will, should it happen. You can say what you want about Vince and I often being on the same page, I don't care --- he was right, Seth's had many chances to capture Emo's URWL Championship. We need new blood in the Main Event scene and Fusion's done enough to prove himself worthy."
Goldash's final comment to interviewers, however, is bound to create speculation.
"In spite of what happened with Stern and Kuleshov, I was truly upset with our officiating tonight. The Rally Star roll-up pin, the attacks by Blood and the interference during our main event should not happen. It's an embarrassment when compared to other leagues in the RBN, especially after the RPW official decided to stop the match after Kyle Andrews attacked Evan James at Ground Zero."
Slowly beginning to lose his temper, Goldash continued. "And as always, it all comes down to the decisions of our Board. We haven't hired a full staff of officials in years and it's all due to cost-cutting. This should not be an excuse, especially with the revenue sharing agreements between each RBN affiliate. I'm going to make sure these bad calls don't influence future URWL events and I'm going to convince the Board that it needs to happen."
A press conference will immediately follow this Board meeting at URWL HQ. Stay tuned to the Rantboard Network for all the information as it becomes available.
