Short Biography
Emeka Okoye, a member of the new officiating crew in the URWL starting in Season 3, is the first British referee and the first referee of African descent in URWL history. Hailing from Milton Keynes, England, the twenty six year-old Okoye is the son of Nigerian immigrants and a one-time football right-back forced into early retirement due to a gruesome ankle injury. Instead of becoming despondent with his failed career, Okoye started refereeing local wrestling shows at age 19. He caught the attention of URWL CEO Goldash and Head of Officiating Richard Kahn during a trip to London in 2011, where, supposedly, Okoye tore his knee on a dangerous ref bump but continued officiating the last ten minutes of the match.
While he may sound injury prone, Okoye's effort and genuine love of the seemingly mundane refereeing profession was reason enough for Kahn to take him under his wing in 2014 as part of Season 3's new referee crew. Most of all, Okoye is a fan and student of the business. He awaits his opportunity to debut as a URWL official with enthusiasm. Just don't tell that to Rally Star. When the flamboyant Brit heard of Okoye's hiring, he threw a tantrum. Okoye isn't afraid to give disqualifications and the one-time winner of "England's Most Hated Professional Wrestler" was on the receiving end of many during his time in the British independent circuit.
