I guess it's come to this. As I explained (in character) on Rantcast, HighStakes and RUSH are no more. They've been replaced with a new show, URWL LIVE.
It pains me to do this for a few reasons: One, because the HighStakes name is out there and already been promoted on nearly every CAW show for the past two years. Two, because I've done this once before --- Rebirth became Unrivaled Ambition, after all. And yes, I was called out on it by viewers who didn't know any better, but I truly feel this move is the best for the URWL going forward.
Despite the kayfabed nature, what I said on the Rantcast was true. Paring down both shows to one helps immensely in the production process, namely because I only have to use one set of graphics. Yes, Roughness will still be aired on the RBN account but that won't be as intensive a production as LIVE or supercards will eventually be.
With my absolutely crazy work and school schedule (yes, I decided to go back), I have to find a balance between simple and complex. That includes scaling back. I also want to make things fun again from a production standpoint. For far too long I've been overthinking and procrastinating every move the URWL's made. This gives me much more incentive to reach my goals.
Will the production of LIVE be scaled back? Not by much, but you'll notice some change. Unlike a lot of CAW shows, I've decided to go back to a match-by-match angle progression except for certain circumstances where I deem promos necessary. This means not as much Story Designer features. Also, I've told myself not to go "all out" on one show and instead spread ideas to multiple shows to create a more consistent lineup. This means I need to do more with less.
I've had a hand in the creative process with both the "RBN Invasion" angle in SWF and Taurus's in US-Dojo. Despite being on completely different ends of the seriousness spectrum, just helping the SWF Staff and The Lord of Awesome rekindled my enthusiasm and creative drive. At this point, I just want to get any kind of content out there. Sure, some casual viewers won't like the voice-driven content or the lack of a full event, but with Roughness, LIVE and whatever other content I decide to work with, I just want to get back to where I was.
I'm not going to promise you the moon or say all these big words like "I'm back and the URWL's going to be better than ever", because, frankly, I've said that five times already and every time it ends up being untrue. But with RBN being the way it is and the great support network we now have with all four leagues helping eachother out in the way we have...I think now's the time to finally do my part and come back.
All four RBN leagues are run by working people in real life. We also take pride in what we do for CAW, regardless of the output. We've all dealt with our fair share of praise and criticism from the CAW scene. There's nothing worse than making promises you can't keep, and because of that, I no longer can guarantee an event will be posted at a certain time. My schedule is just too crowded. But there's one thing I can guarantee: The return of the URWL. Whether it happens in two weeks or twelve months, however, is anyone's guess. But it's better today than it has been in a while.
Enough talk. Time to do. Once again, thanks for sticking around...and, as always, get ready for RASSLIN'.
