 They are rioting in my town now, that's about 1/4 of a mile from my workplace, suddenly it all seems real to me now. |

If you lived in england you'd probably understand a little more why they don't. I agree they should, but I am willing to bet the apple didn't fall far from the tree in some cases.

Hardly any news coverage on this side of the pond except for the odd "oh, more rioting happened in England today, and people think it's spreading to other towns!". No American reporter has really dug into the roots or causes of it, unless I'm not watching enough CNN or Fox News where this kind of thing gets beaten to death every day.
Daywalker, that Sheldon Thomas video was a great watch. Makes me wish there was a bit more sensible voices and journalistic integrity out there instead of all of these so-called "experts" whose only exposure to the real life issues of the day come from internet research and not much else...

I wonder if the latest Occupy protests have made this situation any worse than it was this past summer. They sure have defined the American social landscape in a very short period...although I don't quite know where the movement's heading anymore. People seem to skew a good idea to their own perverted desires (see: Tea Party).
