Here's an interesting tidbit which I found on the Internet Wayback Machine under my older website URLs. This should entertain your thoughts about the history of the URWL and why we became who we are. Also, this includes some pretty bad spelling errors but I chalk that up to young age and grammatical ignorance more than anything.
NOTE: This was made during the "UNW" days, after the URWL merged with a friend's e-fed, the NOW. So, for those of you that are confused by the reoccuring references to "the UNW", you know where it's coming from. This vaguely covers the history of the URWL between 1999 to early 2002. Enjoy.
BEGINNINGS
The UNW was established in 1999 as the Unnecsessary Roughness Wrestling League (URWL). This was the work of Nick, AKA Goldash007, who loved the fed he started in, the MWL, made by Mark Root.
E-Feds have changed very much since 1999, yet Nick still holds some of the MWL formula in the modern-day UNW.
Nick, using Zeus Pro, had a concept of making his own fed that could stand up to the one made by Mark Root. Nick finished the concept early, but left the URWL on his old computer's hard drive until March 2000, when he finally decided to do something with it. Shortly after, a great E-Mail fed was established that would later become the fed that it is today.
The original members included Abbitt, Barry White, Blood, Spectre, and The Hammer. These five were later known as the biggest superstars ever to walk the face of UNW's history.
The fed's first shows were called Friday Fire and Saturday Slam. On the first Fire, a stable formed called Risen From The Dead, the only unity between Barry White and The Hammer until all hell broke loose.
Shortly after, an event came along called Monday Rush - now the UNW's premiere event (EDIT: THIS WAS AS OF 2002). On the first Rush, a new phenom came into the UNW. The man called Blood who won the UNW Championship from Hammer in a matter of seconds.
THE END OF THE E-MAIL ERA
In December 2000, after several successful months running the E-Mail URWL, Nick decided how to get the URWL on the internet (He actually thought back then that sites at Angelfire, etc. had to be paid for) until, finally, three nights before Christmas, Nick moved the UNW to the internet.
All he remembers about that night was:
"I remember that my cousins were over watching 'Annie' on ABC. I, thinking that Annie is the chickiest Chick Flick ever made, decided to browse the internet until I discovered free websites could be set up, and then I made the URWL online...Simple as that...but, I didn't know any HTML. So, I used that stupid "auto page maker" feature on Angelfire and made myself a pretty decent site."
Nick had a successful site up. With his close friend of many years, Mark, he started a fed with him under the name Carkus2000 (EDIT: He's now known as VinceNeil1981). Nick's name was Goldash007. It might sound weird, but it worked for them.
THE SLUMP
The URWL was very successful at Angelfire. Barry White had the best record in URWL history, at 101-56, at that time, the roster exceeded 80 people, and new features like the eTitle, which gave wrestlers 20 extra wins when they won it, provided the fed's members with great satisfaction and excitement. It was all good, until something started to happen...
Mark and Nick had a large disagreement out of the URWL in early 2001, and then Mark quit, which shocked all the fed's members. Nick made a vow that the federation would achieve great status, even without his friend Mark supporting him.
Nick, now knowing what to do with HTML, relocated the site to Topcities.com. The URWL, he said, would be good enough to succeed this time.
He picked his other good friend John "The Commander" to be vice president.
The fed went along greatly until August 2001, nearly one month after its relocation. The "Commander Era" was beginning to look bad for the URWL...
THE COMMANDER ERA
The Commander Era was a point in UNW history that was deeper than any depression. Deeper than the depression before the NOW/URWL merger to form the UNW. Deeper than the RP controversy. The Commander Era was the UNW's great depression.
Nick wanted to make this Commander Era one for the ages, so he hired his former employer, Mark Root himself. Nick thought this partnership with the former MWL owner would make the fed go higher than ever before. It didn't. Mark Root was way too busy preparing to enter into a college and didn't have any time for the URWL.
The only Pay-Per-View that happened in this era was The Bad Outdoors 2001, a pay-per-view that was one of the best pay-per-views in UNW history because of one thing: The deathmatch between Spectre and The Commander.
That night, one of the biggest stunts in UNW history was completed. A powerbomb off the top of the URWL Roughness Tron by Scorpion made all the people who read it jump in excitement. Yet, what seemed to the URWL as a golden age quickly turned to tin, and the URWL was on the brink of close for the very first time.
But, out of seemingly nowhere, one man returned who would bring the UNW back into a golden age that the URWL would NEVER forget.
THE ALUMNI ERA
In September 2001, Nick and Mark talked for the first time in half a year. It seemed like forever as almost instantly, Mark was rehired as Commissioner. Instantly, even with John as Vice President, and the Commander Era still in full swing, the URWL, with Mark's help, had a golden age.
Flash animations were used for the first time in September, as Nick quickly learned Flash himself using the tutorials in the program. The URWL was brought back to great status almost instantly.
The Hammer, who left the UNW, joined again when he heard that Mark was coming back to the fed. Now, using their real names, Mark and Nick made great storylines which made the fed more interesting.
One of them was the "URWL Alumni" storyline, which took place at HalloweenHorror 2001, in which Mark brought back old URWL favorites like Napolean, The Love Doctor, Blood, and most of all, Barry White. The Alumni took on all comers at this event. But, at this event, also, the URWL was treated to the first iteration of MAXIMUM FORCE. The stable who wanted the URWL to fall flat on its face.
One of the great tag teams of this era was RFTD 3, Scorpion and Spectre. As you know, the first RFTD (Risen From The Dead) was Barry White, The Hammer, and Spectre. But, they broke apart only after one week. The next RFTD was announced in early 2001, when the stable Gothic Hell broke up. RFTD 2, then, was two members of Gothic Hell, Spectre and Juggernaut. Then, they broke up after about three months on the circuit. Then, later in the year, Spectre teamed up with Scorpion to make RFTD 3...they broke up in about two months. Spectre then teamed up with Barry White to make RFTD 4 in early 2002, but they broke up almost instantly. The RFTD tag teams were probably the best, but, nothing came close to the success of Merle and Hog, which will be covered later on.
Next month, one of the best Pay-Per-Views in UNW history would take place - Christmas Carnage 2001. The fed was ready to take on Maximum Force. That's when Qyntel Wagner, AKA 1929, made his debut and quickly won the Wrestler of the Year award.
That's as far as it got. If I can remember more things (it's been so long), I'll extend the history on the new website through 2003, our close, and the current YouTube era. Now, you have a look at our muddled past. The eTitle was a horrible idea, by the way...
