(SAN FRANCISCO, CA): Everyone has a personal threshold of functioning, a line between normalcy and insanity that is seldom crossed. However, one URWL wrestler's own rapacious obsession has caught up with him, driving him over and above the point of rational thought.
At around 4:00 AM on the Sunday after Unrivaled Ambition left the air, neighbors reported a disturbance in the San Francisco condominium of URWL Season One Rookie of the Year Seth Stern.
"Someone, I think it was Stern, was having a wild temper tantrum," neighbor and fellow Bayview Terrace resident Dr. Judith Troy told the San Francisco Chronicle. "Breaking glass, loud cursing, pounding walls...it was apparent he was having some sort of a nervous breakdown for all the building to hear."
Stern, 22, was last seen at the San Francisco airport some seven hours prior, reportedly refusing to sign autographs for several pre-teenage fans who awaited his arrival.
David Grabowski, neighbor and casual acquaintance of Stern's, wasn't surprised. "He was acting a bit quiet lately, keeping to himself and hardly leaving his apartment until someone at the URWL needed him. Thought I saw him at (local San Francisco bar) Perry's a while ago. Seemed to keep to himself, and that's not the Stern I know. He always wants to be the life of the party, but all he's been lately is a loner."
Facts are still scarce about the incident, but the family of Seth Stern released a public statement Monday morning confirming the report, much to the shock of URWL fans and the wrestling media.
Head URWL Lawyer and Board of Directors member Jack Stern went as far as to conduct an interview outside the ransacked apartment for local and national media outlets.
"Apparently some neighbors were complaining about noise coming from Seth's apartment," the elder Stern reported. "A neighbor tried to subdue him but to no avail. The authorities were notified, and we...the family I mean...were contacted around six [AM]. I can't say we really know what happened, but I can confirm that Seth is now in minimal security at the Pescadero State Institution for a psychiatric evaluation...can't say much more, there's nothing I or his folks can say at this point."
Stern has no history of mental illness and no similar cases have been reported in his immediate family. If his obsession over capturing the URWL Championship from Jaime Emo has peaked, his loss to Fusion and failed Main Event interference at Unrivaled Ambition may have served as the catalyst. With Emo - and now Fusion - triumphant over the former #1 Contender, Stern's personal embarrassment has officially transformed into legitimate concern.
URWL representatives released a short press release in the wake of the events. "The news of Seth Stern's recent hospitalization comes as as shock to this organization. However, we wish Seth a speedy return and expect him to be back in time for his scheduled house show appearances and television dates."
