I've decided to put the league on indefinite hiatus, as many of you can see. The reason? I have more important things to take care of that can benefit me more in the long run. I'm entering my final year of college and it's going to be quite a workload to handle.
Quite frankly, I'm upset at many of the comments around here and YouTube from people who I've obviously never been in contact with "demanding" new shows. No one is truly entitled to anything, regardless of if it's on the internet or in real life. Those who have followed the show for years can understand how much I value my real-life work and it's a shame that a few who don't know usually are the loudest voices. For example, one person who I'm not familiar with over YouTube told me that he would "take over" the show if I'm busy. These demands are ridiculous, ignorant and disrespectful. I've done all I can in the past to give you guys the best show I possibly can regardless of my technological or personal limitations, so it's disheartening to see people I've never even met making such ridiculous demands for my work. There are other shows out there (HVF, FSCW, WWR, FWA and the upcoming VWA, among many others) that I think can provide enough entertaining, innovative CAW wrestling in the absence of the URWL.
As for me, don't worry, I'm not terminally ill, sick or dead. As I have said many times before, I simply have other important priorities that come before CAW, such as my final year of school, the need to maintain a reasonably high GPA, "necessary" video, audio and creative writing projects as well as a full-time job. Most days, I'm on campus until after dinner time and that leaves me little time for the things I used to do when I got home earlier in college or as far back as High School.
As for now, if I do find the time to make videos for "fun", they're going to be long-term, non-intensive projects that either benefit me at school or artistically. The reason I was able to make Road To Rebirth in a fairly quick time period was because it was actually made for a Digital Arts project. I doubt I'll have many opportunities to do something like that again, especially as classes concentrate further on "artistic merit" such as shot composition and lighting instead of motion graphics.
I know, you're probably thinking "well, other college students can work CAW into their schedules, why can't you?" Well, the forthcoming answer comes from a conversation I had with my girlfriend about the matter. I linked her to the URWL videos one day and she replied, "you do the work of 50 people with this thing". Her reaction, despite exaggerated, actually helped me put things into perspective...the URWL is a huge project for me, one that takes a lot of time and effort to pull off if I want to keep it as detail-oriented as I envision. Some who work in the field can definitely see how much work it can be, while others (hint: "YouTube kids") obviously see it for what it is, just another show. I'm not saying all of my work is top-of-the-line, mind you, because it's not...there are many programs I've never used, such as After Effects, that could possibly make the show better. I just try to use resources that are available to me at the moment and make the best of them. Like Paul Heyman said in the "Rise and Fall of ECW" DVD, its all about "accentuating the positives and downplaying the negatives" when it comes to production. So while I'm not saying I'm the best at what I do, I'm still saying it involves a ton of hard work and dedication on my part to make the URWL what it is, hence the countless long waits you've endured recently.
I apologize. I apologize if I've ever let you down by promising deadlines that never happened or giving you inaccurate dates, and that goes back all the way to Discontent 2007. Do you think I like pushing things back or making you wait? No, of course not. And I know the regulars here understand, even to the point where they'd mimic the YouTubers themselves and start making jokes about it. I totally understand and, yes, all those jokes are well-deserved. I even make them myself. But what I'm trying to get at is...I don't mean to upset any of you, nor am I trying to hide my face from the board or purposely avoid any of you over AIM or MSN.
My circumstances as a student, employee and videomaker at the moment don't give me enough time to contribute a hundred percent of my efforts to the URWL, and believe me, that makes me furious. Really. If I had enough time to dedicate, if I had nothing to lose or risk, I'd be back here making shows and episodes immediately. Believe me, if I could, I would.
As for now, I can't see myself making any more full shows or episodes with the same type of intensity I did. On the other hand, I'll try my best to upload some of my non-URWL work to YouTube or engage in less-intensive projects (such as a real vlog or short videos) in the meantime, just to get some "editing practice" in once in a while. As for the URWL, well, I hope to someday find some time to pull something together, and when I do, I'll be sure to let all of you know immediately.
And now, as for the people who don't get it...there's nothing more disrespectful to me for people to all of a sudden take credit for my ideas...no, I'm not talking about the URWL's production style or philosophy as a show, but the use of characters and such without my permission. The internet can be an ugly place, full of jealousy and seemingly unpremeditated anger. It's hard to understand the motives of some of these people. I'm just here to respectfully and honestly remind those of you who don't understand the work of a CAW league owner to do the right thing. I know many viewers just don't care what goes into the production of a show, and I understand that viewpoint. But, please, out of respect for myself (and others), please be considerate and respectful to the people that make your viewing experience enjoyable, the owners and producers themselves. Because without their hard work, there'd be nothing worth watching.
All right, guys. I'll try to jump in here as much as I can and attempt to contribute to the conversations as best I can. I apologize for my silence and I'll try my best to be as active on these boards as I can.
No, this isn't the end of the league. Far from it. I'm trying to find ways to potentially bring it back, all of which (at the moment) look nearly impossible thanks to my schedule. I thank all of you for your understanding, time and loyalty throughout the years as well as your dedication to what started as a small hobby and turned into a way for me to share a wrestling philosophy. I assure you, I'm going to try everything in my power to get the league back up one of these days. Trust me, if I can survive four grueling years of college and emerge relatively unscathed, I can eventually bring back the URWL.
