So, who thinks KOFI JOHNSO...KINGSTON is going to be a big-name guy for the WWE after his angle with Orton is over? I think he's going to have huge drawing potential, as no one on the roster seems to wrestle like he does. Not to mention that he has the potential to steal the show every time he steps into the ring (like he almost did at Wrestlemania 25's MITB).
I think he's an underrated technician and someone who will bring a lot more athletisicm to the main event scene.
But is he "championship material" yet? Or is something missing? I'll let you take over from here...

I would love to see Kofi become a main event draw, and I absolutely loved his promo last Monday. But depending on where this angle goes, I'm not sure what's going to happen.

it's been painfully obvious that they were building Kofi up to the main event for awhile now.

As obvious as it is I'm glad WWE is moving forward with SOMEBODY who will try to shatter the glass ceiling. Kofi gets a wonderful crowd reaction and can wrestle. Them dropping the Jamaican gimmick was needed because you could only push him so far with his bad accent that impeded his promos a bit. His promo skills will be the deciding factor for me. I'm happy someone else is getting some rub. Someone black also

I think after his run with Orton, He'll be in line to get the title. I do like watching Kofi, and I'm glad he is getting mic time.

Wow, I just came back to this thread and "option two", once again, seems to be what the WWE settled for in Kofi's case. At the beginning of the year, he was practically in the main event, with tons of fan support, and just as quickly as he was pushed, he was demoted to the midcard.
What I'm wondering is...WHY does the WWE continue to ignore good things as they happen in the name of politics and stagnancy? Has the show become SO SCRIPTED over the past few years that pushing wrestlers based on crowd response has become a dead art?
I think my last observation may just be true. I get the feeling that WWE scripts their angles months and months in advance unbeknownst to the fact that certain wrestlers may just get over. Knowing the mistakes WCW made with their constant changes at the last minute, maybe WWE is politically and creatively keeping new faces out of the spotlight as soon as they catch fire because their insertion into a main event slot may not make creative sense.
But if you look at the many wrestlers WWE have failed to push in the last ten years, you can see how stagnant they have become...Jeff Hardy in 2003 (before his first firing), Booker T. the same year (when he was buried by HHH at WM19), Shelton Benjamin, Chris Jericho (although he eventually won the belt as a heel), CM Punk, the list goes on and on...and it makes painfully obvious sense why infrequent WWE watchers would think that the product "hasn't changed" in five years.
It just may be the sorry state of wrestling itself at the moment...come on, wrestling industry, you're losing the market share to Mixed Martial Arts at the moment, COME UP WITH MORE CREATIVE AND INSPIRING WAYS TO DRAW PEOPLE IN INSTEAD OF KEEPING STAGNANT ALL OF THE TIME. I think the wrong people are in power in WWE and TNA and are putting politics above decisions that could benefit the industry itself.
(end rant)

They didn't push CM Punk? is that the same CM Punk that won the World Heavyweight title less than two years after debuting?

Titles and pushes are meaningless when you're forced to defend them against Kane, Mark Henry and JBL. His second reign was almost just as bad since he lost the belt over and over again against Jeff and Taker. So even though he was "literally" pushed to the main event, it was at the expense of some bad booking.

Your post said WWE failed to push him, not gave him a "meaningless push" which wasn't actually meaningless. Mabey to somebody using a total smark mindset, but to casual WWE fans (which makes up like 90% of there audience) Punk is beating former World champions, and each one is MUCH bigger than he is.

I lumped him in with some of the bad decisions they've made in the past few years so IDK. He doesn't seem like he's on even casual fans' radars today except for "being the creepy hairy dude that hates Rey Mysterio", which kinda sucks. I think if his reigns were a bit more substantial, he'd still be noteworthy and at least considered by the fans to be a factor. Then again it's quite hard for me to step outside my smark comfort zone and cheer for the kind of people the WWE are pushing to the moon at the moment because the product has been so stale the past few months IMO.

You aren't being Smarky at all because CM Punk ISN'T in the same light as Orton, Cena, Batista and HHH because of the shoddy booking. He's really just a talented guy kept at arms length from super-stardom. Sure he's a star and a main eventer but he's stuck in the revolving door.

There's a MUCH bigger thing than booking keeping him from being a superstar. CM Punk lacks the most important thing to mean something in WWE, which is the look. And to be honest you'd have too be completely deranged if you don't understand why WWE wouldn't want a 6'2" 220 pounder with an average body build too be the face of wrestling.

I think we need to learn that WWE are never going to push who we want them to push how we want them pushed unless we are hired, but even then it's highly doubtful. Punk is a small guy, and much why I doubt we'll see Christian with a meaningful world title reign. I don't think he has an average body since he is far slimmer than Big Dick Johnson, but Punk's body doesn't scream an athlete either. However the body type situation hasn't stopped others from getting title reigns. I think with title or without it Cena would be face of WWE until someone else who is clean cut and looks good comes along. To sum up Punk WWE probably don't want the face of the company who "looks like he's been on a week long crack binge with Amy Winehouse" that is an oldish HHH line which for someone who is promoting a "healthier" lifestyle and kind of looks like crap probably isn't the best candidate for being the face of the company. However someone who roids, but looks good is perfectly fine isn't it WWE Don't get me wrong I'm not hating on Punk, at the moment for me he is the best promoer that WWE have right now. Too me he and Anderson are the two shining lights promo wise. They talk and I listen and at the end it's either "Oh thats so mean" or "That was really funny" I realise others may not agree on that though Am I being a smark? Yes. I'm at the stage where being a normal wrestling fan isn't possible anymore. I'm not a proud smark though it annoys me that I am one.

Doesn't have the look? Who said we'd only buy merch from a 6'2" muscle head? That's what WWE wants you to think with how they control their talent. If the WWE really thinks this is the only way to go we would have never seen Shawn Michaels or Bret Hart break the glass ceiling. They only seem to venture to smaller guys when they get into some trouble. They CAN book a small guy to look good; they just DON'T, looks or no looks.

Who said anything about merchandice? I said WWE wouldn't WANT somebody that looks like he could be just someguy off the street to represent what a wrestler is. Why? because it gives the impression that anybody could do it. Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart are terrible examples. They might be under the 6' mark, but still look like legit athletes. Punk on the other hand can't wear anything other than his attire on screen because he "dosen't look like a wrestler with pants". Bret and Michaels also got the ball because steroids in wrestling started becoming a hot topic with the media. And yes WWE could book anybody too look good but don't becasue of looks. Hell it's even a known fact that Johnny Ace (head of WWE's talent relations) prefers looks over talent and charisma.

And I'm saying that's the dumbest thing ever because at the end of the day we LOVE to cheer for who we can relate to. So what if we are enamored with huge specimens; at the same time we like seeing our own. Why do you think so many Spanish people turn in to watch Smackdown? Now my issue is this: You're ok with what you've just explained? You dont see an issue with that? It locks so many people out of the limelight solely based on aesthetics.

So what if we are enamored with huge specimens; at the same time we like seeing our own. No, people cheer those who portrait there gimmick well. Who can relate to a guy like Undertaker or Kane? There's absolutley no way anybody can relate to a guy like Delirious, yet he can turn crowds against guys they already like. Same with El Generico. This is completely irrelevant though. We're talking about an image WWE is trying to maintain, not who gets cheered and who dosen't. Because Rey was a huge star in Mexico long before moving to the U.S. They like him because of his wrestling background, not his ethnic background. I never said I agree with what WWE is doing, well I'm sure everybody agrees with it too an extent. Hopefully nobody would want somebody that looks like a 12 year old kid as WWE champion.
