I've been watching some old NoDq CAW matches lately and it got me thinking again about what I read in the "create a finisher" discussion. Dingos brought up a point that if smackdown would just change it's engine, the game could be so much more enjoyable. Since THQ made both DoR and SD games it shouldn't be too much of a major issue to just add in some of the aspects of DoR into Smackdown. I'm not talking about a complete change but just add some things that made the gamecube wrestling games great and unique. Also, since they have put Smackdown on Wii rather then continue with the DoR-like games, it makes more sense for them to do such a thing.
Here are some things I think Smackdown would be great if they added in:
One thing I noticed about DoR is that for moves like the Stratusfaction and the People's Elbow, the game doesn't make some cut-scene in order to pull off the move. The wrestlers will do it from where ever they are. No magical centering in the middle of the ring. It looked silly when I first saw it in the original Smackdown but I got used to it over time. It's time to do away with it now.
There were also a collision aspect where when you bump into someone mid-move you hit them. It can be annoying since the computer would hit you all the time while you're doing a finisher but it added to the realism. We all complain about how easy smackdown is, this would make it a bit more difficult.
DoR, like the N64 games, have a superb reversal system that is lacking in the SD franchise since the very first one. Why did the likes of Big Show still back-flip over his opponent when reversing a back suplex for so many years? It took them 8 games to do something and it is still lame in my opinion.
DoR did not have invisible walls that have plagued the later SD games and they need to get rid of them.
Why can't I do more moves on the apron? There should be several move options that can be done on the apron. There is no excuse for not adding this.
I know there are a million things that we all want in Smackdown and this argument has been done constantly and its old. I'm just befuddled that they put awesome things in one game that they wont in another game; both that they made.
