BIRMINGHAM, AL - The time has come yet again. As the superstars of the SWF gear up for the biggest show of their season, Mind Games 8 in Dallas, Texas, a group of them are preparing for one of the most grueling experiences in their careers: the annual SureShot Tournament!
“The SureShot may still be pretty new, but it’s definitely a big deal,” says Eric Ridgeway, who competes in his first SureShot tournament following a number of impressive, if futile, losses. “It’s like strapping a rocket to your career and sending it into the sky.”
That might be the best way to describe it. The very first SureShot Tournament took place last year in the buildup to Mind Games 7 in Baltimore, and the winner? Mike Kizzar, the current SWF Champion.
“It’s an exciting format for us to have going into Mind Games,” said Jackie Blue, general manager of the SWF. “It’s a simple tournament, but with a huge prize at the end.”
That prize being a contract to face the SWF Champion at any point in the upcoming season. Kizzar cashed his in during the aftermath of SWF Game Over’s main event, which saw him defeat Kyle Andrews to become the champion. He goes into Dallas headlining Mind Games as a result.
“I’d say it was instrumental in my career,” Kizzar says. “For the 8 guys that will be competing this year, all I’ve got to say is good luck, and I’ll be waiting for you.”
The tournament bracket is a closely guarded secret to be revealed on episode 19 of SWF ReVenge, the first show since the cataclysmic Dark Horizon. Only Ridgeway’s name has come up in discussion regarding the highly anticipated tournament, which will terminate in Dallas at Mind Games itself.
“I’m looking forward to it,” Ridgeway says. “It’s just the thing that I need to get back on the right track.”
Episode 19 of ReVenge will be live from Birmingham, Alabama in the coming weeks.
