ORLANDO, FL - As the superstars of the SWF continue their journey to High Stakes in Orlando, Florida, several of the bookers and planners for the big show are already in the city, planning out how the big event will go down. High Stakes is annually one of the biggest CPV's of the year for the SWF, as it decides the main event for the biggest show of the year, Mind Games. This year however, things may operate a little differently.
"We're going to be trying something new with the High Stakes match itself," says Zack Stanick, one of the many road agents for the SWF. "In the past, it's basically been our own play on the WWE's Royal Rumble, but this year, we're looking to differentiate ourselves just a little bit more."
This year, the High Stakes match is scheduled to have 25 participants, all vying for a shot at the SWF Championship and a spot in the main event of Mind Games 8. However, the road to that opportunity will look a little different this year. In years past, the superstars came to the ring one after another, with as many as 6 in the ring at one time, with eliminations occuring after a superstar was tossed over the top rope to the floor. This year however...
"First, and probably most shockingly... we're adding pinfalls and submissions into the mix," says Stanick.
In addition to the normal "over the top rope" eliminations, superstars can also be eliminated via pinfall or submission, a change that Stanick says will up the suprise factor of the match. Now, instead of seeing a superstar trying for an elimination at the ropes over and over before succeeding, eliminations can occur with the suddenness of a one on one match, something that will definitely drive up the excitement factor.
"Also... superstars will face each other one at a time," adds Stanick. "Think of a gauntlet match. Two guys start, one guy is eliminated. Another takes his place and so on and so forth. It really adds a much more stringent endurance test to the winner. He's gonna have to not only outlast 24 other superstars, but he literally has to eliminate each one standing in his way himself. No lucky instances of people being eliminated by other superstars first."
But the end result?
"In the end, it's still going to be an exciting match. We've got a few surprises in store for the SWF fans. And yes... the winner still faces the SWF Champion at Mind Games 8," Stanick assures us.
SWF High Stakes will be live on pay per view from Orlando, Florida.
