LITTLE ROCK, AR - As the SWF superstars begin converging in Little Rock, Arkansas, site of this year's Game Over event, we caught up with something of a Femme division icon, Becky Raines. Raines is scheduled to return from her retirement for one night only to team up with Femme Division champion Emma Kiwi to take on Chalie Williams and Carmen Madison.
"It's really just exciting to be in front of the fans again," Raines smiles as she sits at the world famous Peabody Hotel. "You kind of lose track of it when you're in the midst of your career, being on the road for weeks and weeks at a time... it all kind of runs together, but once you've been out of the game for a little while, there's nothing that can compare to the rush you get coming through that curtain."
It's been a long time since Raines came through that curtain for a match. Long time SWF fans will remember her last match took place at Mind Games IV, roughly 7 years ago. That match saw her face longtime rival (and opponent for Game Over) Chalie Williams in a title vs. career match, one that she lost when Williams picked up the pinfall through dubious means, holding on to the bottom rope for leverage after the distraction from fellow SWF superstar PG13.
"I'm not gonna lie... it was a crappy way to go out," Raines says. "I thought the fans deserved more, but you deal with the hand you're dealt. That kind of precedes my reason for coming back though. I figured that not only the fans deserved to see it one more time, but I needed a bit more closure. That, and I've seen what the Femme division has become, and I've wanted for a long time to see how I stack up against the superstars of today."
That Femme division, started in the early days of SWF by Raines and Williams, along with other standouts, is now ruled by Raines' partner for the evening, Emma Kiwi.
"It really is an honor to go in alongside a legend like her," Kiwi says. "I mean... we all came through wrestling school at the time of Raines and Williams and their classic matches. I get to live a little bit of the dream every time I go against Williams. Now I get to see what it's like to team up with the great Becky Raines."
On the other side of the ring, Carmen Madison has similar feelings.
"I think we all remember the "Last Woman Standing" match of Mind Games II," says Madison. "It's kind of awe inspiring to be in the ring with both of the women who made that match and, in turn, made the Femme Division what it is today."
