Okay, so I just graduated from college. ;D This means one thing: unless I'm swamped in media job searching or on vacation (which is likely), this leaves more time for me to work on Unrivaled Ambition. With the majority of the matches captured, I'm looking to finish some things up and get right down to business. I wanna see how you tackle the tag team entrances for SVR2011 since you can't do it in story designer anymore. I cropped and zoomed in a bit to work around the nameplates in 2008, but since they're a bit bulkier now, I'm not sure. Probably just going to do whatever works best. 1. Congratulations, celebrate this you've earned it. 2. Might be a stretch to do, but sometimes you can cut two tag entrances together (only certain ones work though because of lighting and where the nameplate is.) I can hope most likely won't happen but for an advanced tag entrance editor in a future game.

Well, as the trailer shows, work has progressed very well...SO well, in fact, that I now have less work ahead of me than I once did. More graphics and such need to be made, but I have one match left to capture and that's it...most of what I wanted has already been done. Granted, a lot of it was a gigantic pain in the ass thanks to my rustiness with the game, but things are looking really great. Not great enough for me to put a solid date down yet, but it's really getting there.
This trailer, 30 seconds or not, is a prime indicator that this show is about ready to really begin rolling. Pretty soon it'll be editing and commentary time, as amazing as that is to say...

Wanted to update you on just how much I've been getting done recently. Along with the trailer, I recently fixed all of the namebars (due to a weird animation I just recently learned how to fix), made UA's version of the Master Control replay - the best one yet, IMO - and working to finish several graphics I planned to nail down.
I realized this already by watching other shows out there, but not even one event into Season 3 and I'm already finding the premade Story Designer cutscenes limiting. The good thing is, there's a hell of a lot of ways to modify them. What I'm going to try to do is use those premade cutscenes differently in order to generate a new feeling from them. I wish the game would allow us total freedom in this regard, but there's not much we can do. That's why I'm not going to overuse them and integrate them seamlessly with real-time, in-game stuff.
And this may be a bit boring and unsexy to read, but I made a checklist of things I still need to do and it really puts things into perspective for me. I know exactly what I need to do and that makes it seem like less work than it is. Of course, as I've said in a few YouTube comments, all of this has been a lot of fun (apart from the ending of the main event, which took me two all-nighters to capture due to derpy AI and my own error).
At this point, I'll love it if I could have the event up by July and then start all over again on HighStakes. HS's graphics and matches won't be as numerous, but it'll be a lot of work nonetheless, especially when building everything from scratch. But I don't want to get too ahead of myself. In the meantime, I'm hoping the Reloaded series can hold you over.
Brace yourself, Rantboarders. The URWL is scheduled for reactivation imminently.

Well, took a small break after coming back from vacation and ever since, I've been slogging away on the nuts and bolts of Unrivaled Ambition. It's finally come down to the editing phase (with some miscellaneous graphics that still need to made here and there). After compiling and commentary, this baby's about ready to go out the door.
But it wasn't all fun and games this past little while...
-Moved the production of the show from Final Cut Express to Adobe Premiere CS5, due to its easy handling of my chosen file types, integration with After Effects and multicore rendering speed. I was going to buy Final Cut Pro X but chose not to, for obvious reasons. So part of it is just me adjusting to new editing software that I'm not 100% fond of just yet.
-Although a majority of graphics have been made, some are still missing, so I need to take care of that. This is another major overhaul for the URWL, so it's going to take time for things to look all shiny and new.
-Again, this show is as much an experiment as it is the "new" URWL. There's a lot of things I'm planning to do that I've never done before. As such, things may seem shaky or out of place, and that's quite all right with me.
-The show has always been about replicating the feeling of watching a show on TV, and UA is no exception. There's a lot of flow and polish and timing that I've tried to pay attention to in UA, so hopefully things will look a bit crisper and sharper and more TV-like this time around.
-And as with many of our old shows, expect surprises. That's all I'm going to say about that.

Update from the weekend:
With most of the "big pieces" in place, I'm now focusing on small details. These details are taking forever to work out. Most of it is just trying to do things I haven't done before which is as fun as it is frustrating. Some of these "small" projects seem to take two nights to complete, so in the scheme of things it's kind of frustrating. But that's production for you, stuff takes time.
Again, one of the reasons the actual work is taking so long is because I'm literally trying brand new things out every night. I'm still somewhat of a newbie to After Effects, and the program's so overwhelmingly huge that there's numerous things that I haven't scratched the proverbial surface of. Most of my work on the event is from scratch with minimal reference to tutorials (mostly to find out ways to arrive at my intended result).
My tentative plan is to have VinceNeil1981 on color commentary throughout the entire event. If not, expect him on one or two matches at the most. Wanted to try the whole color commentary thing again, so we'll see where it leads...time permitting, of course.
I don't want to uselessly build up the event or exaggerate for promotional purposes, but believe UA will be the most detailed and realistic URWL event yet - and it will certainly be worth all the agonizing hours that I worked on it and that you waited for it.

Another quick update: Whew, so the massive checklist of things to do keeps getting smaller. Been working non-stop on the show for the past few days so it's high time I make these officially public viewing, just to at least show everyone that, yes, I'm working on this show (like a boss) and, no, I'm not mindlessly hyping "wrestling vaporware" with constant status updates. Here goes, then... The "Explosion of the Evening" rebranded for Season 3. Frame taken from the animation itself.A frame from the Chimera trailer. This will be based on (ripped off from, actually) the music video for Yellow Magic Orchestra's "Rydeen"...one of the greatest songs and videos of all the times - Some more anecdotal information you may be interested in: -One major video and a few small (and I mean small) graphics need to be made and then it's going to be time to get back to match editing. I somewhat have my work cut out for me because I've already edited one of the five matches, so there's not much left to do. -Because of that, I'm going to estimate that this show may very well be done and posted in the next two weeks (minimum). At last, it seems as if the amount of work in front of me isn't as daunting as it once was, and that I can finally see the end of all of this madness. Of course, commentary may be another issue upon itself - Vince is open to recording color commentary but he's been quite swamped in his own busy schedule. Should only be less than a day's work, so I'm optimistic. Stay tuned...

8/10/11: All right, I know this isn't the news a few of you wanted to hear, but the show will be delayed another week thanks to some freak migraine headaches over the weekend and into the beginning of this week. When you're sluggish and computer monitors make the problem worse, there's not much time to make things work as well as you want them to.
Going to get back to UA work tonight, so we'll see if I can make up for any lost time.

8/16/2011: Health is back and so is the post-production process. MAJOR work has been done in the past few days, and I mean MAJOR. Ballpark figure: next Monday, or even before.
Color commentary for this event, however, is not looking good. Vince's work schedule has been drastically increased through no fault of his own, and his chances of stopping in and at least recording one match of color is pretty much slim to none. It's not really a dealbreaker for me, but I would have loved to start the new slate of shows off with a two-man booth. Oh, well. If it happens at HighStakes, great.
Going to be an entertaining last few days. Hang in there - the wait, as amazing as it is to say, is just about over.

8/18/11 - Once again, huge progress has been made in only a few days and the final match I needed to edit is well underway. My hope is to hopefully start vocal stuff (public address and commentary) by Saturday afternoon at the latest, mix the audio on Saturday through early Monday and post it up in its final form by Monday night.
After the event is posted, the obligatory spoiler/discussion thread will immediately follow, along with the unveiling of the final HighStakes card. A new, image-driven format for the URWL Power Rankings will follow shortly afterward, since power rankings will have a big emphasis on our show starting with UA.
Also, starting with the participants in UA's main event, all URWL wrestlers and tag teams will be assigned custom Highlight Reel "Roughness Trons". UA will be the first and last URWL event with blank video screens. Starting with Episode 1 of HighStakes, all wrestlers will have their own custom video in every match. The idea came too late into production to really capitalize on, but I found titantron-making a pretty fun task, so that's my plan from now on. With that being said, I'm not going to put much stock into them, so expect things on the level of 1998-era WCW's "few moves over and over again in slow motion" videos.
After a short, few-week-or-so break, HighStakes's production will begin. I want to at least get four "small events" and a supercard done by the end of the year. As I said before, HighStakes and Roughness events will contain five matches maximum but will usually average four. The premiere episode of HS will include five, on the other hand. Supercards will tend to be longer, but shorter than, say, Digital Mayhem or Popular Demand length. I'm thinking around 6 maximum matches there.
Since UA is technically a "special event", it leans more toward supercard-length matches. While UA's matches are pretty average match fare by our standards, the "normal television" matches will be shorter and more concise, while still retaining our emphasis on quality. This was mentioned a long time ago in my post about our "new match philosophy" and that won't change. The hard part is telling a quality story and packing in a lot of big moments in a short timeframe, but it's something that comes with this new emphasis. No more 15-20 minute matches on normal shows unless it's a huge deal or the main event.
Once again, I may be getting too far ahead of myself with future plans without knowing how packed my schedule's going to be, but since I now know a bit more about how to do things in the programs I'm using, I hope they'll be a bit more quickly-produced from now on. Until then, I hope UA turns out to be something that's as fun to watch as it was to produce. We'll see about that, though...
